Tip Tail: Great site, great cause
Folks, it's not often I ask people to buy blog ads on *another* site, but... here's a great site I've come across that is now accepting blog ad advertisers -- and sending the proceeds to the Utah Collie Rescue organization:
http://www.tiptail.com
If you like dogs, and you want to help (and read some great dog-related content), check it out, tell your 10,000 closest friends to do the same, and consider advertising with these good folks.

"Best TV Ads Ever" - a new ActForLove.org effor
Well, it's not political (mostly), and it's not about love (well, mostly), but what the heck, it's a lot of fun, so... we have officially launched a new blog at:
www.BestAdsEver.com
It is exactly what it sounds like -- a tribute to the best TV ads ever (funniest, cleverest, most impactful, etc.). Check it out today, and make sure to add your own two cents.

Note to the left: Stop whining, start having fun
An interesting discussion broke out on the Progressive Exhange list yesterday, spurred on specifically by Hillary Clinton's request that site visitors vote on her official campaign song.
Now in truth, the songs were (mostly) kinda lame, predictable, etc., but hey, at least they were trying. However, while most of the exchange members got a kick out of it (albeit mostly in a subversive way), a few felt it wasn't serious, it was too trite, etc. Which provoked the following from me... The serious stuff is important, and it's why we're all here in the first place. Except for the right-wing spies, of course (hi Alberto!).
That being said, and not to get off on a rant, but... all too often on the left, there's a sense of guilt or accusations of "shame" when something is done that is fun, silly, or just for kicks. Somehow, that we're not "pure" if we're not spending 100% of our time being "outraged," saving Timmy from the well, or shouting "hey hey ho ho, fill-in-the-blank has got to go."
The serious stuff is important, but let's not kid ourselves -- it's the fun stuff that is much more effective in drawing people from beyond the base... and frankly, even from within the base. The Hillary song thing may not be the be all and end all, but it will certainly get some attention and new visitors for the campaign -- certainly much more so than another tired expression of outrage, another 700 page policy statement, etc. Let's face it -- for every 1 person who watches C-Span, about 100 watch the Daily Show. And about 1,000 watch sitcoms. (I love C-Span, but then again, I'm a geek).
It seems to me that the right wing has an easier time accepting fun and laughter in politics... particularly when they're doing things like reminiscing about waterboarding, or veering to run over small animals in their commie-stompin' monster trucks. I see no reason we can't have a lot more guilt-free fun about the good things we do.
Personally, I'd love to see a lot more "party" in the Democratic party. It doesn't mean we can't do the serious stuff at the same time, but it might mean that we'll ultimately have a lot more allies to help make them happen. And we might have a lot more luck in getting to 50% + 1 more often.
On that note -- I'm off to go download some more Monkees tunes. And I'm going to write in Heather's suggestion of "Let the Eagle Soar" as the Hillary song. And then go watch my Tivo'd Seinfeld. Just for kicks.
Now if you're here at ActForLove.org, you clearly have a sense of humor, or at least a tolerance for quirkiness, bad puns, etc. So spread the word and spread the humor -- and never feel guilty about just having fun.
