Blow jobs are bad for your health

I have carpal tunnel and haven't blogged for a while, but I just got pissed off and wanted to share:

Dan Savage used a reader's question about his problem with blow jobs to talk about the newest sexual health research likely to make some news:

HPV transmitted through oral sex (both blow jobs and going "down on the town" ) can increase the risk of throat cancer by over 250%--more than smoking.

http://slog.thestranger.com/2007/05/...

A new HPV vaccine which has the potential to save thousands of women's lives against HPV and cervical cancer was opposed and raised no awareness in the mass media until NOW. Now that that men are affected, the HPV vaccine will have no problems being mandated across the nation.

"Now that straight men can get cancer from eating pussy, the HPV vaccine is going to go from controversial to sacramental faster than you can say, 'Suck my dick.' "  ---Dan Savage

Did you know this? Maybe I'm behind on the times since I switched from Wash Post home delivery to simply getting my news online (and now hardly reading the web because of the carpal tunnel!)

Also, I know many of you are all smarty smart and media savvy, and we all know  about politics in this country when it comes to women demanding sexual and reproductive rights, but dammit, this shit still gets my goat!

Why Bush Approval Rating will hit a new historic low

I think the President's approval rating was about .00001% among non-Republicans, and there wasn't much lower it could go.

This immigration battle, however, is hitting him in the only place where his approval rating remains good -- the GOP base.

Immigrant Legislation Splits GOP - washingtonpost.com.

Key figures on the right, including conservative talk radio hosts, analysts at the Heritage Foundation and National Review columnists, derided the agreement as a sellout of conservative principles, while GOP presidential candidates criticized the plan as a form of amnesty -- a characterization rejected by the White House.

If this one really gets heated, I could see his overall approval rating sinking below 20%.  That's worse than Nixon.   And well deserved.

"Get Action" and help rebuild Eastern Market

Folks, as you may know, Eastern Market, one of DC's most beloved landmarks, was gutted by a fire a few days ago.    Well, some community activists here in the Districts, led by Clay Johnson from Blue State Digital, have come up with a hella creative idea -- they've gotten a slew of bars here in DC to agree to donate a portion of proceeds on May 8th to help with the rebuild effort.  Learn more here:

http://www.easternmarketrescue.com/

Here at ActForLove.org, we're not just spreading the word, we're going to put our money where our modem is as well.

Between now and May 9th, ActForLove.org will donate all net revenue to this cause. So if you've been wanting to check out the online dating pool but have been too embarrassed, here's your excuse, okay? (think of it as not a "cause for action" but "action for a cause").

By the way, for everyone who is not in DC, Eastern Market is a very big deal here, and a big part of the community. This isn't just some mini mall or one of those faux "local markets" for tourists where they sell cheap trinkets and beads and velvet Elvis posters. I mean, yeah, there's *some* of that, but the vast majority of it is a real genuine market that real people go to, shop at, sell at, etc.

This is the place where people buy cheese, meat, fruit, etc. It's also a place where people hang out, meet each other, and have a small town experience in the middle of the city. It's very much the heart of this section of DC, as well. For anyone who's ever whined or kvetched about chains, the disappearance of main street, etc. -- you would love this place. This is the real DC -- the city -- as opposed to the metaphorical "DC" where Congresscritters come to "feed." For a whole host of reasons, it is critical that this market get rebuilt as soon as possible.

This is a great cause, and for anyone who wants to "act locally," here's your chance. And if anyone else has any kind of business, and can get on board with this, I’d urge you to do so.
