"Boniva" - No it's not dirty

So the first time I saw an ad for "Boniva," I figured it must've been an SNL skit for some faux-viagra pill.   But no, it's for fighting osteoporosis... or something... whatever.

But here's the thing -- they're spending zillions of dollars on TV ads starring Sally Field (and yes, we really do like her), touting the advantages of the pill vs. other competitors.  The big difference -- "you only need to take it once a month, not once a week!"    Now if you've not seen the ads, you'd think from Sally's tone that this was the most friggin exciting development in human history.

How lazy have we really become?  How hard is it to take one pill a week?    It's not an enema, for God's sake, it's swallowing a friggin pill.    "Gosh it's a beautiful day and I'd love to enjoy it, but... I've gotta swallow this pill.   Sigh..  it could be hours."

These are the things I obsess over...

Well that is 2 seconds saved a month, and over the course of years, that is... well, still not much. :-D

My mother has tried to take the once a day version of Boniva. You have to be able to sit or stand for atleast an hour, you can't eat for a certain amount of time and it's a real pain in the neck. She switched to the once a week version at it was just as awful She had to get up early each Wednesday. So she could get through her routine in time to have breakfast. I guess there is lotsa fizzing and discomfort in the stomach while the process takes place. She finally gave up altogether. So folks who need the medicine understand what Sally Field is trying to say. I guess the only thing left for the rest is to laugh, make fun and ridicule. It's what we do when we don't understand something. I wish it were indeed as simple as swallowing a pill.
Hopefully, by the time the young peolpe who are laughing at this get old enough to need it, there will be a better way to address osteoperosis.
Hey kids, we were your age once and if you are lucky, you'll be our age someday. How about cuttin' the old folks some slack
