Many moons ago, I did some work with them on a campaign getting people to drink lowfat milk (and yes, I still remember the key tagline -- "an 8 ounce glass of whole milk has as much saturated fat as three strips of bacon"... ;)

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit consumer organization conducting innovative programs in nutrition, alcohol, and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation's premier health newsletter. CSPI strives to provide useful, objective information to the public, represent citizens' interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies, and ensure that advances in science are used for the public's good. CSPI is supported by nearly 900,000 members nationwide and foundation grants.
CSPI is seeking an organizer to work on a dynamic project to improve school foods, require menu labeling, and reduce junk food advertising to children. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Grassroots Advocacy. Responsibilities include helping to coordinate outreach to members, activists, grasstops, and the media, organizing coalition activities, and assisting in the management of an online activist network. The organizer will also help develop fact sheets and other informational materials, maintain databases, and organize travel.
A four-year degree and 1-2 years of political/advocacy organizing or campaign experience is required. Additionally, one must have experience training, motivating and working with volunteers as well as the ability to understand and teach others about issues. Strong computer and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. The successful candidate will be flexible and work well under pressure while multi-tasking. A Demonstrated knowledge and interest in nutrition and health is a plus. A working knowledge of Excel, Access, Publisher, and Lotus Notes a bonus.
